This week, in yet another shake-up to the upper echelons of the White House cabinet, Trump has announced plans to fire National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster. Trump has described McMaster as, “too rigid” and his security briefings as, “too long and seem irrelevant.” This comes the same week Trump fired his top diplomat, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
Zuma to Stand Trial
Former South African President Jacob Zuma will stand trial after authorities announced they will pursue 16 charges against him, with racketeering, graft, corruption, fraud, and money laundering among them. Zuma, who had served as South Africa’s President since 2009, stepped down on Feb. 14th amid political pressure from his own party.
“Phase Two” Tax Breaks
Newly appointed White House economic advisor Larry Kudlow has called for a “phase two” of tax cuts to make tax breaks for individuals permanent. This Republican-driven initiative is riding off the fact that US consumer sentiment is at a 14-year high. Critics fear a second tax break could overheat the economy as the Fed had been considering a rate rise in the near future.
